Something smells fishy, Captain Birdseye was invaded by Pirates

My blog matt.ultralab.net and colleague Hal MacLean host our weblogs on Ultralab’s until now, very faithful ‘Captain Birdseye Server’.

Captain Birdseye has a long history at the lab, dating back to 2001 as a server bought for our friends at the RNLI’s now offline ‘lifeboats.tv’ project.

Captain Birdseye was persistently challenged by a hacker setting a robot on one of the web services attempting to break a password. The machine, which has sustained five years of service finally got so clogged by the attack, she had to be turned off for the bank holiday weekend and revisited today on Tuesday.

Thanks to Alex and Tim for getting her running again, locking her down from Internet pirates even more.
