iChat (AOL AIM) to you MSN friends without running Messenger (Jabber, Mac OSX 10.4)
Wow!
I followed the instructions and now don’t need to use MSN Messenger to talk to my MSN buddies (who usually have a Hotmail email address) as I can now talk to them using iChat using a Jabber server.
Fantastic, it works!
The above screen grab shows my ‘Buddies’ (AIM iChat users) ‘Bonjour’ (local Network in Ultralab (1990-2006) users and ‘Jabber’ users (MSN contacts). Hal is talking to me from MSN Messenger, and I’m getting his message through iChat (via Jabber).
Depending on the free Jabber server you use, you can access other chat users (eg Yahoo Messenger! and ICQ). Test it if you can, leave your comments here below!
Now I don’t have to ever run MSN ever again!

I got it up and running but the only MSN contact I have states “waiting for authorization” and my contact does not know what to do to authorise me. Neither do I ??

Thanks for the comment. Do you show as away on buddy’s MSN lists when you are not personally logged in yourself? I’m going off to experiment, thanks for the feedback….

Nice site. I followed the MSN/iChat/Jabber instructions. It works well, but shows you as constantly ONLINE on MSN, even when logged out of Jabber. Any tips to resolve this?
